Nadine Henderson Leach

Nadine Henderson Leach, 86, of Nokomis passed away on November 27, 2018 in Venice. She was the long -time owner and operator of Nokomis Groves, Inc. Nadine was born February 6, 1932 to the late William Perry and Annie Lee Hayes in Parrish, Florida. Her family moved to the Venice area in 1935 after her father became manager of Stone Grove and lived in the Lloyd Higel House until 1947. Her parents then purchased the land in Nokomis that is now known as Nokomis Groves. She was a graduate of Venice Nokomis High School and married Gene W. Henderson in June of 1951. Gene and Nadine operated the grove for many years until Gene's death in 1979. Nadine continued running the business along with her daughters, and later remarried to local electrician Dallas Leach. Nadine was a woman of many different facets. Along with raising six children she was church choir soloist, church librarian, Sunday School teacher, and Girl Scout Troop Leader to name a few. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed embroidery and cross-stitching. An avid reader, Nadine also loved poetry, especially the works of Don Blanding. She was passionate about gardening and loved to travel both abroad and in the US. One of her favorite places to visit was a quiet cottage in the West Virginia mountains where she tended to her daffodils. She leaves behind 6 surviving children, Linda Fischer, Brenda Kemerer (David), Sandra Henderson, Laura Henderson, Kirk Henderson (Laura), and Joanna Pal (Steve) all of Nokomis. Her son, Eric Henderson passed in 1963. Nadine was also a grandmother of 13, a great-grandmother of 9, and great-great grandmother of 2. She will be remembered fondly by her beloved family, many friends, and acquaintances. Family and friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Sunday, December 2, from 2:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. in the Farley Funeral Home Venice Chapel located at 265 Nokomis Ave. South in Venice. A Funeral Service will follow at 3:00p.m. Interment will follow in the Jesse Knight Cemetery located on Colonial Ln E, in Nokomis. In lieu of flowers, donations in Honor of Nadine may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
