Denis Blank

Denis ""Pep"" A. Blank, 82, a resident of Venice, FL, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away October 29, 2018. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Floribert and Dorothy (Anthony) Blank. Pep was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a graduate of the Carnegie Mellon Institute, receiving his BS in Engineering. He retired as an engineer and quality control manager with ATI after 27 years. Pep was a parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and was a member of the Hillcrest Country Club, the Plantation Golf and Country Club, American Society of Metals, Elks, and American Legion. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Lauer Blank in 1998; daughter, Kathleen Wagle; one brother and one sister. Surviving is his wife, Mary Lou (Bongiovanni) Blank; son, Denis A Blank Jr.; grandchildren, Stephanie Lackovich, Jessica Singleton and Jacob Blank; great grandchildren, Nolan Lackovich, Lyric Hoffman, and Malachi Hoffman; step sons, Todd and Brian Sterlitz; and step grandchildren, Trinity, Riley, Amara, and Parker Sterlitz. Before coming to Florida, he helped his wife, Mary Lou, care for her two granddaughters, Trinity and Riley. For many years Pep enjoyed his summer home on the Allegheny River, where he built his own tennis courts and home. In 2005 Pep moved to Venice, FL, where he continued to play tennis, and his wife started to teach him to play golf. He also enjoyed doing cross-word puzzles and jumbles, and he was an avid reader. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1301 Center Rd, Venice, FL 34292. Interment will follow at 12:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241. There will be a luncheon held at the Plantation Golf and Country Club at 1:45 pm after the interment.
