Marcia Morley peacefully passed away in her residence at Village on the Isle in Venice, Florida on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. She was attended by caregivers who had come to know her and love her. Her 94th birthday had been a few weeks before. Marcia was predeceased by her mother and father, her sister Carolyn and her brother Norman. She is survived by her sister Doris Troutman of La Jolla, California. She and her late husband John Morley had had no children but she was loved by her all of sisters' children: Stephanie Howerton of Houston, Texas; Peter Meigs of Los Altos, California; David Troutman of San Jose, California; and Stephen Troutman of Rochester, Minnesota. There will be a memorial service for her at Grace United Methodist Church on Wednesday September 19 at 10:00 am in Venice which she had attended for many years. Marcia was born to H. Hallock (Hal) and Mildred Brown in Troy, York. During her childhood years, she lived in Round Lake, New York and Valencia, Spain. Later, since her father's job as seismologist required a lot of travel, she lived in various places in Texas and Louisiana. She and her sisters all earned their college degrees at Texas Woman's University (in those years, known as Texas State College for Women) in Denton, Texas. They were all Rosebud Princesses. It was there that she met the man who would be her husband for almost 60 years, John W. Morley. He was an officer in the U.S. Infantry and served in the Pacific theater during the war. After World War II ended, they were married in 1946. John was a career military officer who spent 20 years serving in Korea and Vietnam. Marcia was with him at the start of the Korean War and had had to be evacuated from the Pusan perimeter to Japan. She was not able to be with him during his tour in Vietnam but she was with him while he was post commander in San Juan, Puerto Rico. John retired from the Army as Lt. Col. While living in Cheshire, Connecticut. After retirement he took a position as Treasurer for the HC Cook Company. While living in Cheshire, Marcia was active in her church. She was a DAR member as well as Eastern Star. She was the leader of a Girl Scout group during this time as well. Marcia and John moved to Venice in 1969 for his job. They lived in Venice until their deaths; John in 2006 and Marcia just recently. Marcia was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was active in various charitable organizations. Marcia was a very caring and kind-hearted lady and will be sorely missed by friends and, most especially, by her extended family. All of our thoughts and prayers are with her. We are all profoundly glad to have known and loved her.
