Guenter Leuschner
April 12th, 1932 - August 2nd, 2018
Guenter Leuschner, 86, of Venice, FL, passed away on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018. Guenter was born on April 12, 1932, in Heinzendorf Niederschlesien, Germany, and came to America in July 1952 at the age of 20. After an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, in which he served for two years, he met his wife, Hildegard, at the German Club in Stamford, CT, and they were married one year later. Guenter and Hildegard had three daughters, Gabriela, Heidi, and Ingrid, four grandchildren, Billy, Christopher, Ryan, and Kimberly, and a great granddaughter, Charlotte Rose. Guenter was a chef by trade and worked at Bloomingdales in Stamford, and after that at General Foods in White Plains, NY. In 1968 Guenter and his wife bought the ""Country Deli"" on Bedford Street in Stamford. They both worked in the deli until they sold the business in 1983 when Guenter went to work in the deli of the ""Porricelli's Food Mart"" in Old Greenwich. CT. In 1997 Guenter retired from Food Mart and moved to Venice, FL, where he began working in the deli of Publix Super Market. During his lifetime, Guenter was an active member of the German American Club ""Liedertafel"" in Stamford, CT. He served in the club as a Director and Trustee for 42 years. Upon his arrival in Florida, he became a member of the ""German American Friendship Club"" in Venice. Guenter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hildegard, three daughters and their families, Gabriela Iacovo and her husband Bob of New Fairfield, CT, Heidi Boutieller of North Port, FL, and Ingrid Leuschner of Stamford, CT, three grandchildren, Billy Iacovo and his wife Erin and daughter Charlotte Rose of New Fairfield, CT, Ryan Piekarz of North Port, FL, and Kimberly Iacovo and her significant other Collin Monahan of New Fairfield, CT. He is also survived by his sister, Hildegard Ruggieri and her husband, Tony, of Staten Island, NY, along with many nieces and nephews. Guenter felt comfortable with his passing, and was happy to go home to his grandson, Christopher, who preceded him in death and whom he missed so very much. He was also predeceased by his sisters Ella Leuschner and Erika Dumain and his brother Werner Leuschner. A service will be held on Saturday, August 18th, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, 265 S. Nokomis Avenue, Venice, followed by a graveside gathering at Venice Memorial Gardens, 1950 Center Rd., Venice. Thereafter, Hildegard would like to welcome guests at ""The Leuschner House"" for a celebration of Guenter's life. Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida is handling the arrangements.
