October 12th, 1962 - July 14th, 2018
Margaret (Mollee) McFarlane, 55, died July 14, 2018, in Venice, FL at Tidewell Hospice House, with family close at hand. There will be a memorial service at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Thursday July 19, 2018 at 10 am followed by a reception. Mollee was born on Oct. 12, 1962 in Clare, Michigan to Jerry and Rose McFarlane. She grew up with three siblings, Michael McFarlane, Melissa Townsend, and Mari Campbell, all of whom she loved dearly. Mollee grew up in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and attended Sacred Heart Academy and Northwood University, she moved to Colorado after a vacation there. In 1996 she decided to become a single mother by adopting her daughter Caitlyn Simpson from China. Shortly thereafter, Mollee met her husband, Donald Simpson, who had a young daughter of his own, Alicia Simpson. They were married and decided to have a third child together, Megan Simpson, in 2002. The whole family moved to Venice, Florida in 2003. While living in Colorado, Mollee worked as a bank teller and property manager. In Venice, she worked at Venice Elementary School as the school's Information and Technology Specialist. She enjoyed making sure the bright young students of Venice Elementary were well equipped with the technology they needed to enhance their learning experience. Though she rarely worked directly with students, she was beloved by many, and the teachers were always grateful for her cheerful and generous demeanor. In 2012 Mollee was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. She assumed chemotherapy treatments and had multiple surgeries in attempt to overcome this horrible disease. For six years, Mollee was determined to fight for her life and be available to her family, friends, coworkers. Despite all the physical pain and emotional stress she endured, she never failed to stay optimistic and lend a helping hand to others. She was truly an inspiration. In lieu of flowers, Mollee's family is asking for financial contributions to the American Cancer Society, Tidewell Hospice, or to Megan's college education fund.
