David Allen Kitson passed away, surrounded by family, on November 22, 2017, at the Englewood Tidewell Hospice in Englewood, FL. David was born in Springfield, MA, on May 6, 1939, and he lived in Springfield until the family moved to Glastonbury, CT, when David was eight years old. He graduated from Glastonbury High School, and about that time, joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves. At a later date, David attended the University of South Florida. Most of David's career was spent in Quality Control in the aerospace industry. He came through the ranks and eventually rose to quality manager at different companies in the Hartford area. While working at Gunver Manufacturing in Manchester, CT, David was awarded the honor of Quality Professional of the Year for the Hartford Region in June, 1996. The award was given by The American Association of Quality Assurance, Hartford Section. David retired in May 2013, at which time he and his wife, Judy, set out to find a place in Florida where they could move permanently. In the spring of 2016, they moved to Englewood, FL, after selling their home in CT. Prior to the Florida move, David lived with his wife in Cheshire, CT, Clinton, CT, and lastly in Old Saybrook, CT, where they lived for more than 15 years. After retirement, David devoted his time to various endeavors, including working at the Food Pantry in Westbrook, CT; helping to start a community garden at the Westbrook Valley Shore YMCA; and helping with different fundraising events sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, of which he was a member. He also participated in Knights of Columbus fundraising events in Englewood during the past year. David had a zest for life, and his interests included music (both choral singing and piano, which he played for many years earlier in his life), stonewalls and brick laying, cooking and researching hundreds of recipes, and genealogy, which he avidly pursued in his later years. He and Judy also loved traveling, particularly with their beloved Capella Cantorum Chorus, with whom they traveled over a period of 12 years to many wonderful places across Europe and singing along the way! David leaves behind his wife, Judy of Englewood, FL; his daughter Kate Kitson and her partner George Tilford of Orlando, FL; his daughter Karen Jutras of New Britain, CT; his son Christopher Kitson of Boynton Beach, FL; two grandsons Anthony and Alex Jutras; and his sister Susan White of Rocky Hill, CT. He also leaves three step-sons Jeffrey Tan of Danville, CA, Rick(Marcie) Tan of Castle Pines, CO, Gary(Karima) Tan of Fairfax Station, VA; and a step-daughter Carolyn(Owen) Tan Deane of Manly, Australia. Although in Florida for only 1 ½ years, David has made numerous friends in his Park Forest community in Englewood, and the family is eternally grateful for all their love and support. The family requests that donations be given to the NFCR for cancer research or the Valley Shore YMCA in Westbrook, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for David at 10:00am on Tuesday, December 5th at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Englewood, FL. Service Information Date: Tuesday, December 5, 2017 Time: 10:00 am St. Raphael's Catholic Church Address: 770 Kilbourne Street, , Englewood, FL, 34223 | Map
