Wilhelmina ""Wimpy"" Hicks Wilhelmina ""Wimpy"" Hicks, born February 24, 1920 in Lansing to Nick and Mary Kriek, died February 14th peacefully in Venice Florida. It’s as if she decided no more Valentine Days without Hap, her husband of 74 years who died in 2014. “Wimpy” worked at the The Cottage Gardens Nursery, for about 30 years, first in sales then in advertising. Her greatest joy was her family- immediate and extended- sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews. Many an hour was spent holding, reading, feeding and playing with all the children. Whether in Lansing, Interlochen or Venice, Sundays were eating together days for whoever could come. Being together was important. Throughout her life, she demonstrated creativity. Her flair for interior design was evident in all of her homes, from structural plans to tie-dye pillows- designs often far ahead of the current trend. Flower arranging was another passion of Wimpy’s. She was a long time member of the Lansing and River Ridge Garden Club, was instrumental in starting the greens market and was an instructor and judge for Ikebana, Japanese flower arranging. There was always an arrangement on the dining room table and elsewhere in her homes. Her brother Nick and sister Jane preceded her in death. Survivors include her children, Joey Latterman (Okemos), Hap (Linda) Hicks Jr. (Venice), Bill (Debby) Hicks (Perry, Ohio) and Ron (Cindy) Hicks (Venice); 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. A big thank you goes to Mary and Katy of Mary’s on Bayshore in Venice Florida who gave expert care and kindness this last year and a half. Memorial services will be held in Florida and in East Lansing at People’s Church at a later date.
