Kathryn Haller McVicker, age 98, of Venice, Florida, died peacefully on July 31, 2016. Kate was born November 4, 1917 in Junior, West Virginia, to the late John Hopkins and Myrtle (Elbon) Simon. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Gail Haller, of Burke, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bill Day, of Young Harris, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann (Priestley) Haller; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Charmaine (Haller) Posson; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years MWood A. Haller, second husband Walter ""Mac"" McVicker, and one son, James Patrick Haller. Kate was the last surviving member of 6 siblings, having also been preceded in death by brothers Gail, Dane and Edward, and sisters Neva and Jean. She married MWood Haller in 1939 and they had 3 children: Jim Pat, Mike and Kathy. They raised their family in Springfield, Virginia before retiring to Florida in 1983. However, they never lost their strong bond to the hills of West Virginia. Kate was an avid bridge player and loved to travel, visiting 48 states. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Philippi, West Virginia, Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Pinebrook Women's Club in Venice, Florida. A family memorial service is planned, with interment at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Gulf Breeze, Florida at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Burlington United Methodist Family Services, Inc., RR3, Box 3122, Keyser, WV 26726 or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
