Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Martin Zelko, Jr.
May 21st, 1930 - May 25th, 2016
Martin Zelko, Jr., 86, passed away at Cadbury Park, Venice on May 25, 2016 comforted by his daughter, Deborah Zelko of New York and his long-time local caregiver and friend, Grace Peinado of North Port. Martin was born (May 21, 1930) and raised on the upper eastside of New York City. His parents Anna (Feranec) and Martin Zelko were immigrants from the Czech Republic. Martin attended New York University where he met his wife, Otilia (Tili) Corral. After graduating, marrying, and living as newly weds in Brooklyn Heights, Marty & Tili moved to Scotch Plains, NJ where they enjoyed the suburban life and raised their two children, Mark and Debi. New Jersey was home for over 30 years until Marty & Tili retired and moved to Tangerine Woods in Englewood, Florida. Throughout his lifetime, Marty enjoyed gardening, fishing, volunteering, puttering around his workshop, and having a long chat about current events. He was proud of his service with the US Army, his financial acumen, and the career he retired from as US Treasury auditor in Mountainside, NJ. A private burial service will be performed on a later date at Sarasota National Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held on a later date in New York City. In lieu of flowers, his children, Martin Mark Zelko and Deborah Zelko, ask that a contribution be made to an environmental conservation organization in their father's name.
