Cynthia "Cindy" Purdy
June 23rd, 1964 - May 17th, 2016
Cynthia (Cindy) Lynn Purdy, age 51, of North Port, FL, passed away peacefully at the Venice TideWell Hospice House, surrounded by family on May 17, 2016. Cindy was born on June 23, 1964 in Meadville, PA to Robert and Shirley Purdy. Cindy is survived by her mother, Shirley S. Purdy of Venice, FL; her brother, Raymond S. Purdy (Emiko) of Mineral, VA; her niece, Stephanie M. Purdy of Fort Collins, CO. She is also survived by three aunts, Lois (Robert) Minnow of Baldwinsville, NY, Joan (Paul) Mrha of Venice, FL, and Carole (Donald) Stewart of Venice, FL; and nine first cousins. She is preceded in death be her father, Robert L. Purdy of Venice, FL and her brother, James H. Purdy of Meadville, PA. On April 2, 1986, at the age of 21, Cindy, then a flight attendant for TWA, was aboard flight 840 when a bomb exploded in air near Athens. Four passengers were ejected through the hole to their deaths. Cindy rushed to move injured people away from the wreckage. Cindy then became a flight attendant for Emirates, and airline based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Cindy, looking for a fresh start, went to flight school were she earned her pilots license and flew various types of planes. She last worked for UPS, flying a Boeing 757. Her surviving family and friends will remember her as a driven, brilliant woman with an unmatched wit. A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 28th at 11:00 AM.
