Zane Fatkin
December 18th, 1939 - April 28th, 2016
Zane G. Fatkin (""Fats""), 76, of North Port, Florida formerly of Willingboro, New Jersey, passed away on April 28, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving wife of 55 years, Colette (Dorlhène) Fatkin; his devoted daughter, Linda Seibel; and his one and only treasured grandson, Daniel Seibel. He also leaves behind a lot of caring in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. Born in Carlos, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Daniel and Beatrice (Brode) Fatkin and is predeceased by his two brothers, Ronald Fatkin and Lawrence Fatkin, as well as three sisters, Kathryn Fatkin, Eleanor McGowan and Muriel Trkulja. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army where he served our Country during the Vietnam War. He managed telecommunications and information systems support for the command and control of combined armed forces in France, Germany, Vietnam, Turkey and Fort Monmouth. He retired from the U.S. Army Signal Corps after serving 20 years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed being outdoors, reading, crossword puzzles, and vacationing in France and Nevada with his in-laws. The true love of his life was enjoying the time with his family, especially his grandson. He taught his daughter to be resourceful and independent, to select the right tools, to love nature, and to be thankful. He took great pride in stocking her tool box. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his wisdom. He made a difference in the lives of many. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 13th, 12:30 PM at Sarasota VA National Cemetery with military honors. Reverend Ralph Burton will be officiating. A celebration of Zane's life will be held at the family residence at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Farley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
