Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Gertrude "Trudy" Cors
November 1st, 1918 - April 1st, 2016
Gertrude ""Trudy"" Cors, who lived in Venice for many years, died peacefully on April 1 at the Bella Vita Assisted Living Facility surrounded by family. The youngest of six children, Trudy was born on November 1, 1918 to Oscar Muller and the former Theresa Lexow in Corona, New York. Married in 1941 to William Scully, the couple settled in Farmingdale, New York where they raised three children. In 1970 she and her husband and their youngest son, Billy, moved to Venice. Mr. Scully died in 1975. Trudy married Alfred Cors in 1986. He died in 1998. During the war years, Trudy worked for Sperry Gyroscope Corporation where she was highly valued for her ability to calibrate gyroscopes for bombsites. While living in Venice, she worked for twelve years as a hostess/dining room manager at the Mission Valley Country Club. Trudy and her second husband loved to golf and travel. They belonged to the Waterford Golf and Country Club and the Bird Bay Executive Golf Course. It was at Bird Bay that Trudy proved her athletic prowess with many ""wins"" and three holes in one! Trudy continued to remain active and involved well into her latter years. She volunteered her time as a Pink Lady working in the Emergency Room at Venice Hospital well into her 80's. She was an avid baker and a craftsperson until her final days. She knitted and crocheted blankets, hats, scarves and pocketbooks for numerous family and friends. She was particularly proud of a sleeping mat she crocheted out of plastic bags for the homeless. Mrs. Cors was a member of St Mark's Episcopal Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion. Trudy is survived by two daughters, Gail Parker of East Hampton, NY and Lynn Suhr of Jupiter, FL, and by a dear friend Gail Hering of Englewood, FL. Her son, William, predeceased her. Friends may visit from 10:00 until 11:00 am, with funeral services at 11:00 am, all at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. Trudy will be laid to rest next to her beloved Alfred in Gulf Pines Memorial Park immediately following services. To send condolences, please visit www.farleyfuneralhome.com.
