Shirley J. Seamon, 92, of Sarasota, FL passed away March 1, 2016. Shirley was born April 8, 1923 in Brownsville, PA to Grace (Downall) and George Mitchell. She attended Brownsville High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. A long-time Girl Scout leader, Shirley was also a Cub Scout den mother and a volunteer for many charities. She was very active in her church, including serving as president of the Northern Illinois United Methodist Women. After moving to Florida, she was instrumental in forming the charitable Plantation Foundation and a play readers group, which she continued after moving to The Glenridge. She was preceded in death by husband James M. ""Jim"" Seamon, brother George Mitchell, and a number of brothers and sisters in law. Survivors include her son, James ""Jim"" Seamon, Jr. (wife Kim Seamon) of Punta Gorda, FL, grandson Jeremy Seamon of Villa Park, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A memorial service will be held at The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch Rd. on Saturday, March 19, at 2:00 in the MacIntyre room. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to any charity you choose.
