James T. Galluzi, 89, of North Port Florida ended his journey quietly on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at Hospice House in Arcadia, Fl. The son of James Galluzi & Anastasia Livsey was born in Haverstraw, N.Y on March 29, 1926. He graduated from St. Peters School and Haverstraw High School. He attended the University of Chicago and graduated from the American College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a communication supervising officer on the Staff of Admiral R.K. Turner. He participated in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He received the naval commendation medal for meritorious services. He was also awarded the Asiati Pacific medal, 2 Battle stars, The American Defense Medal and the World War Two Victory Medal. He was called back for the Korean War and served in the same capacity. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked in the Post Engineer's Dept at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point leaving that position to become an Agent for the Prudential Insurance Company. After 5 years he realized that he would rather be an Independent contractor and joined Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company where he successfully maintained a practice for 50 years in New York. Jim loved classical music. He was a member of the Bardovon Arts Council in Poughkeepsie NY and the American Symphony. He worked many years for the Dutchess County United Way, was a supporter of the Poughkeepsie Children's Home and a sought after speaker for The Life Underwriters Association. He was an avid woodworker and designed and constructed many beautiful pieces of furniture for many of his friends and relatives. In 2010 he moved to North Port, FL to spend his remaining years pursuing his passion for golf, symphonies and woodworking. He is predeceased by his parents, his son James T. III; his grandson James T. IV, his sister Anastacia and brothers, Michael and George. He is survived by his lovely wife Geraldine Pozzi-Galluzi, his daughter Lynn Boyer; his grandsons Randy and Tyler and four great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, February 28th at Farley Funeral Home in North Port, Fl. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 29th followed by a Military Burial at Sarasota National Cemetery. Tidewell Hospice team and Tidewell Hospice House in Arcadia took such wonderful compassionate care of Jim through his journey. The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in the name of James T. Galluzi to the Philanthropy Department, Tidewell Hospice at 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, Fl. 34238.
