February 19th, 1938 - November 30th, 2015
Berndt B. Petersen, 77, of North Port, FL, passed away on November 30, 2015. Mr. Petersen was born in Goppingen, Germany on February 19, 1938 and immigrated to Waukegan, IL at the age of 7 after World War II. He loved his adopted country and was proud to have served in the US Army as a Drill Sergeant EC. Mr. Petersen had a successful career in the retail grocery industry starting as a bag boy for A&P in Chicago, IL then moving to Rochester, NY where he was Vice President/General Manager for Peter J. Schmidt Bells and Apples stores. He finished his career in Richmond, VA as President of Great Valu Foods, a division of RichFoods. He then retired to North Port, FL in 2001. Survivors include his wife, Gail, of North Port, FL; four sons, Berndt Petersen Jr. of Alpharetta, GA, Paul Petersen of Gages Lake, IL, Michael Cullerton of Algonquin, IL, and Andrew Cullerton of Rochester, NY; and five grandchildren, Paul Petersen Jr., Brightlynn Petersen, Ariana Petersen, Connor Cullerton, and Oliver Cullerton. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 4th at 5PM at Farley Funeral Home North Port Chapel. A Reception will follow at Farley Funeral Home until 8PM.
