William H. "Bill" Beebe, Jr.

William H. Beebe, 80, 0f North Port passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015. He was born on May 30, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to William and Margaret (Thorn) Beebe. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy, and was a graduate of Delhi University in New York. He was also a graduate of Thomas Edison, and Jersey City University, both in New Jersey. Bill retired from the Nuclear Division of General Public Utilities after 37 years, with 20 years following as Fire Protection Consultant for the Nuclear Facilities. He was an instructor for the Morris County (NJ) Fire Association, a member of the Boonton (NJ) Board of Education, New Jersey state director for the North American Family Camping Association from 1974-1976, and a member of the Boonton (NJ) Volunteer Fire Department on the hook and ladder for 37 years. Bill was also a Boy Scout Leader, a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #1 of NJ, the National Ski Patrol, and an honorary member of Masonic Lodge #360 in Englewood, FL. He was a member of the Fort Myers (FL) Scottish Rite, a former member of the Sarasota Election Poll Workers, a member of the Community Emergency Response Team, and the North Port Performing Arts Society. Bill was also a national square dancer. He is survived by Elsie, his wife of 57 years, daughter Leslie Maynard and her husband Richard, and son John Beebe. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 27th in the Sabal Room at Farley Funeral Home in North Port. He will be laid to rest later in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
