Gasper J. Cajka
January 6th, 1923 - November 9th, 2015
Gasper James Cajka, of Osprey and Venice, formerly of Mount Lebanon, Pa. His funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., at Epiphany Cathedral, 350 West Tampa Avenue, Venice, with burial at Venice Memorial Gardens. Born in Butler, Pa., Mr. Cajka served in the US Army in World War II. He earned a degree in chemistry from Duquesne University and studied for a graduate degree while serving as a teaching assistant at the University of Notre Dame. He spent his entire professional life as a research chemist in Pittsburgh. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Lois Madelyn Scarnate. They raised their two children in Mount Lebanon. They were married for 49 years until she passed away in 2001. Mr. Cajka was an active volunteer for the American Legion (serving as Allegheny County Commander), Epiphany Cathdedral, Knights of Columbus, the Community Music School, and St. Bernard Church in Mount Lebanon. He is survived by his two children, Mary Cajka Geldi, and Paul A. Cajka; son-in-law John J. Geldi, Jr., daughter-in-law Emily J. Cajka, granddaughters Juliet Geldi Riggall and Jennifer C. Biddle, grandson Paul A. Cajka, II, and great-grandson, Graeme Riggall, age 2 1/2.
