Allan B. Miller
July 25th, 1927 - April 30th, 2015
Allan B. Miller, 87, of Sarasota, FL formerly of Pine Island, FL, Warsaw VA, Richmond VA and Kensington MD died April 30, 2015. Allan attended Thomas Jefferson in Richmond, VA and received a BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech. He served in the USCG on the USS General Wm. Weigel in WWII. His career with Honeywell, Inc. in Richmond, VA spanned over 30 years in commercial sales and branch management. Allan’s served in (ASHRAE) The Amer Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers and was a past President, The Boy Scouts of America with12 years as a scout leader and the Advisory Boards of Henrico County. Allan supported Resurrection House, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Family Promise of Sarasota and Southeastern Guide Dogs. He also passionately supported his home churches, promoted hurricane safety awareness, the bicycle trails of Pine Island and The Friends of the Legacy Trail in Sarasota on which he biked regularly at the age of 87. The Millers also have supported our treasures Spanish Point, Selby Botanical Gardens and Mote Marine. Allan and his family were lovers of nature and on weekends and vacations, camped, cooked by campfires, fished, hunted and canoed. Allan's main hobbies were biking, boating and fishing, while relaxing and enjoying God's world and its beauty. Survivors include Jessica N. Miller his wife of 66 years; children: Dr. Bryan A. Miller of Holywood, FL, Margaret [Peggy] Miller Davis of Richmond, VA, Julia Miller of Sarasota, FL and 6 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM, Friday, May 8th at St. Boniface Episcopal Church on Siesta Key. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to St. Boniface Episcopal Church, 5615 Midnight Pass Road, Sarasota, FL 34232 or to The Friends of Legacy Trail, c/o Allan B. Miller Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1644, Nokomis, FL 34274-1644.
