Nora Mae Dillon Murphy of Venice, FL passed away peacefully at home on February 5th at the age of 78 surrounded by her loving family. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday February 10th at 10AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice, FL. Nora is survived by her children, Susan Murphy Cohen (Gary); Carol Murphy (Peter Niewiarowski); Maureen O'Connor (Alfred); and Kevin (Tracey St. Peter), her six grandchildren, Katherine, Emma, Tess, Drew, Bryn, and Remik, nieces Alicemarie Dillon and Barbara Dillon- Carlone and by great grandson Rafael. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Nora Dillon, her sisters Maureen and Ann Dillon, her brother Denis Dillon and the love of her life, James Mazzeo. Nora was born in the Bronx, New York and graduated from St. Barnabas High School in 1954. She raised her family in Woodlawn and had a long and satisfying career at Montefiore Medical Center. She was an amazing mother, father and friend to her children. Her kids have very fond memories of sing-alongs to ""Make Believe Ballroom"", summers at Rockaway Beach and her insane love of candy corn and chocolate. Nora retired to Longboat Key in 1991 and moved to Venice after Jim's death in 2005. Nora was passionate about the many opportunities that retirement presented. She especially loved visiting her children and grandchildren, singing and volunteering. She was a long time member of of the Venetian Harmony chorus, where she found and cherished many dear friends. She was a 1000+ hour volunteer at Venice Regional Hospital and previously volunteered at the Longboat Key Library. Nora was lucky to live in the community of Venetian Falls where she was loved by her neighbors and enjoyed playing mahjongg, and was a dedicated trivia team member. She was an ardent theatre fan and attended many local productions with her pals. Her friends and family brought her immeasurable joy.
