Richard W. Miller, 79, beloved husband of the late Barbara J. Miller, of Venice, FL, and formerly of Foxboro, Mass., died on June 14, 2014. For the past 25 years, Mr. Miller has been president of R.W. Miller & Associates, Inc., an engineering consulting firm and publisher of The FLOW CONSULTANT software. He is the author of Flow Measurement Engineering Handbook, now in its third edition with McGraw-Hill. He was a Bristol Fellow and Senior Consultant at the Foxboro Company, where he designed and directed several R & D laboratories.. He patented many flow meters while at Foxboro and in his later career as a consultant.. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of two of the ASME standards committees, and former chairman of another ASME standards committee. He holds numerous other patents and membership on many USA and International committees. He has written many technical papers on flow measurement. He is a Northeastern University Outstanding Alumni and taught an engineering class in the night school for more than 20 years. Mr. Miller earned his bachelor and master's degrees in engineering from Northeastern University in Boston. He graduated from Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. He and his twin brother, Robert, were born to Wilfred and Ruth Booker Miller on February 16, 1935, in Greenfield, Mass. He grew up in Griswoldville, Mass., and has been a member of Mountain Lodge AF&AM for 57 years. In 2012, Mr. Miller was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, after 53 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed many happy years of sailing Narragansett Bay and the islands off southern New England and New York. They were members of the SSCA and the Newport Yacht Club. Moving to Venice in 1997, they were also active members of the Jacaranda West Country Club and the Sarasota chapter of the British Car Club. He is survived by three daughters and their families: Pamela and Robert Reigeluth of Venice, FL; Brenda and John Bedarian of Franklin, Mass., and Jennifer Miller and the late Robert Heaton of Edgewood, RI.; seven grandchildren, Cheryl Reigeluth of Venice, FL., Katharine Reigeluth of Jackson, Miss., Benjamin and Bradley Bedarian of Franklin, Mass., and James, Thomas, and Jacqueline Heaton of Edgewood, RI; and two great-grandsons, Dominic Lanuto and Xavier Gutierrez of Venice, FL. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Margaret Miller of Greenfield, Mass., his sister-in-law Ann Miller of Brewster, Mass., his brother-in-law Calvin Ainsworth of Greenfield, Mass., his mother-in-law, Olga Zewinski of Greenfield, Mass., his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anton and Avis Mushovic of Amherst Massachusetts; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Anthony Ogonis of Westfield, Mass., six nephews, three nieces, seven great-nieces, and two great-nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his twin brother, Robert, and his sister, Jane. Memorial services will be held in New England in the late summer.
