Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
George Lukon
May 22nd, 1922 - May 6th, 2014
George Lukon, a resident of Venice, Florida, passed peacefully from this life on May 6, 2014 at the age of 91. Before moving to Venice in 1999, George and his wife Liana were longtime residents of Ft. Salonga, New York and Kent, Connecticut. The son of immigrant parents, George grew up in poverty on the streets of the lower east side of New York City. He was a military veteran of WWII, serving as 1st Sergeant in the 301st Bomber Group, 15th Air Force of the U.S. Army Air Corp. in North Africa and Italy from 1940-1945. Returning from the war, George found both love and success in life. The love came in the form of Liana, his dear sweetheart and wife of nearly 62 years. His success was as a small business owner and entrepreneur. Establishing his post-war business roots in Commack, NY, George owned and operated one of the first Carvel Ice Cream stores in the country, created and operated a locally famous and very successful hamburger restaurant called Buddy Burgers, and later launched a successful travel agency. George was predeceased by Liana who died in Venice in 2008, and by his granddaughter Brianna Ravener, who died in 1985. He is survived by his five children, George, Lynne, Richard, Diane and Lisa, twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was devoted to his family and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren he was simply the best Grandpa on earth. They will hold him close in their hearts forever. A celebration of George’s life will be held in the chapel at Farley Funeral Home in Venice, FL at 4pm on Saturday, May 10. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org. Farley Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements.
