Barbara Ann (Bower) Pulsford, 83, of Venice, FL passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at the Venice Regional Bayfront Health Hospital on April 28, 2014. She was born August 30, 1930 in Melrose, MA. She was the beloved wife of Charles G. Pulsford and daughter of the late Dorothy and Harry Bower. Barbara (Bobbie) graduated from Melrose High School and was a member of the class of 1952 at Skidmore College, graduating with a degree in Physical Education. She and her husband lived in several locations while he served as a Pilot for the US Army. They settled in Guilford, CT in 1961, where Barbara was active in the local schools, including teaching physical education in the elementary school. In 1971, the family moved to Andover, MA. Barbara worked in the town library and was a Deaconess at The First Congregational Church of Andover. Throughout her sons' childhoods, Barbara was a committed mother. In 1992, Barbara and her husband retired to Venice, FL. Throughout her wonderful life, Barbara enjoyed outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, canoeing, sailing and fishing with her family and extended family. She had a strong love for history, especially her family genealogy. Additionally, Barbara fully loved all types of music. She enjoyed attending events at The Van Wezel Performing Arts Centers and The Sarasota Concert Series. As a member of the Vice Presbyterian Church, Barbara participated in the Knit One, Pray Too knitting circle, making items for infants, elders and the troops. She was also a member of the Bird Bay Village Knitting circle. Barbara was most at home in Ipswich, MA at The Bowery - her beloved family summer cottage. As a young girl and college student, Barbara spent summers leading the Little Neck children in recreational activities, including teaching sailing and swimming. Many Little Neck residents still refer to her as ""Coach."" In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her loving children: Stephen and his wife Deborah of Knoxille, TN; Glen and his wife Ellen of Marstons Mills, MA; and Barry of Woburn, MA. Barbara, ""Grandma"", is also survived by her adoring grandchildren: Shane, Sarah, Ashley, Cameron, Spencer, Taylor and Ian. Barbara is additionally survived by her sister, Virginia Nordon; cousin, Marilyn Smith as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Venice Presbyterian Church, 825 The Rialto, Venice, FL. To honor Barbara, a donation may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
