Charles R. Leader

Charles Richard Leader, age 80, of Venice, Florida, and formerly of Chambersburg, PA., died January 7, 2014 in Venice. Dick was born on November 8, 1933 in Three Springs, PA, to James W. Leader and Lillian W. (Madden) Leader. He was the fourth of six children, two sisters and three brothers. Dick was a life-long Lutheran and an active church participant wherever he lived. Dick was married to Myralin S. (Straley) of Berkeley Springs, W. VA, who preceded him in death on September 24, 2003. He is survived by his step-daughter, Mindy S. Straley and two brothers and one sister. As a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Venice, he has developed many friends and was a companion with Truda Bianco for many years. After high school and a tour with the Navy Reserves and the U.S. Marine Corp (serving a tour of duty in Korea) he attended Millersville State Teachers College where he earned a BS and a Masters Degree in Vocational Education. He and his late wife were seasonal residents of Venice, Florida since the early 1960's and after their retirements from teaching they moved permanently to Venice in 1991. Dick was always active in community service and a long standing member of the Freemasons, Shriners, Elks and the American Legion. He loved to travel and cruise all his life and had many wonderful travel experiences with his friend Truda. Several years ago he made a ""round the world"" trip which took several months and gave him many stories to tell throughout his life. Dick was an accomplished artist and woodworker and spent many hours at his hobbies. There will be a memorial service at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Venice, Florida on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00AM. A second memorial service and family reunion will be held in July at the Walnut Grove Church of God in Pennsylvania with the date and time to be announced at a later date.
