Jacquelynne O’Rourke Shafer-Smith

Jacquelynne O'Rourke Shafer-Smith - passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 with her loving, devoted husband David and her loyal, loving daughter Cheyenne by her side. She fought a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born July 13, 1956 in Ft. Dix, NJ to parents Gerald and Joan O'Rourke. She attended Seminole High School and Mirror Lake Cosmetology School, earning a cosmetology license. She practiced for many years as a hairdresser in Pinellas County. In the late 60’s she married musician, Phil Tolatta and gave birth to Jasara. They later divorced. In 1988 she married David S. Shafer together they had Dakota & Cheyenne. They later divorced in 1999. She went on to co-own ""Hair and All That Jazz” on Indian Rocks Rd. in Largo and catered to a large and varied clientele. Jacquelynne met Dave Smith in 2002, and they pursued a long distance courtship, eventually marrying in 2008 in an all-white attire wedding on Venice Beach. Together, and including her daughter Cheyenne - they built a life in Venice. There, she operated her mobile salon, ""Mermaid Hair"". Her children were her pride and joy, and she enjoyed a loving relationship with each of them. Throughout her life, she enjoyed horseback riding and was an avid motorcyclist. She was passionate about cooking and entertaining and loved the beach. She fancied herself an ethereal mermaid. She was a beautiful, loving, giving woman who loved her family and friends and believed in her favorite motto: ""Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take your breath away."" She is survived by her steadfast, loving husband David Smith, her children Cheyenne Shafer (Domenic Guggino), Dakota Shafer, Jasara ""Jazz"" (Damion) Mohammed, beloved grandchildren Avani, Damion Jr ""DJ"", and Aryanna; her loving mother, Joan (Jack) Lester, the extended Lester family, her sisters: Marci Murphy (Scott Hayman) & Valery O'Rourke (Brian George), her brothers Lance (Elaine Potts) O'Rourke, Paul O'Rourke (Jill); in-laws: Frances Smith-Merrill (Stanley), Ned Smith; brother-in-law, Bill (Sue) Smith, sisters-in-law Melissa Smith, Nicole Choueri Smith, several nieces and nephews and all of her loyal clients and friends. She is predeceased by her father, Gerald O'Rourke, brother, Jerry O'Rourke Jr., and brothers-in law, Greg Smith and Jeffrey Smith. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in her name at Suncoast area 5/3 Banks to help defray expenses. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1 PM at Farley Funeral Home, 265 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice, FL 34285. Additionally, an outdoor Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 from Noon to 4 PM at Seminole Park Pavillion 10, 10015 Park Blvd. Seminole, FL.
