John Francis Burke, 64, of Venice, passed away August 25, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Major Burke served his country in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years. After his military career he continued on in his field as a CRNA for St. Andrews Surgery Center. He is survived by Mary (Kitty), his loving wife of 43 years, children Christine Sanford and her husband Patrick of Venice, Peter Burke of Greensboro, NC, & Patrick Burke of Venice, granddaughters Helen & Mary (Ellie), brothers Peter Burke of Clearwater, FL & David Burke of Massachusetts, and sister Patricia Filmore of Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his daughter Dr. Kathleen Burke, and brothers James and Thomas. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 pm Wednesday, August 28th at the funeral home with interment including full military honors at Sarasota National Cemetery at 10:00 am Thursday, August 29th. His family requests memorial contributions be made to Special Athlete Boosters in Sarasota County, P.O. Box 2112, Venice, FL 34284. Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
