Helen “Ellie” Salzano, 83, of Venice, FL passed away May 9, 2012. Born December 21, 1928 to John and Margaret Mazauskas in Mt. Carmel, PA, she was one of twelve children and grew up in Newark, NJ where she graduated from the Newark City Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 with an Alumnae Association Scholarship. She took great pride in being an RN for almost 40 years, only retiring to become a full-time grandma for her grandson, Jake, in 1991. Loving wife of John for 57 years, she raised her family in Old Bridge and then South River, NJ before moving to Venice, FL in 1989. Helen loved life and took great joy in being involved. She enjoyed dancing, music, cooking, gardening, and hosting gatherings for special occasions but most of all she enjoyed being a grandma to Peter John Salzano of Michigan, Andrew Salzano of Idaho, Sophia Salzano of Idaho, Talia Salzano of New Jersey, and held a special place in her heart for her grandson Jake White of Florida. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Edward Salzano, by sons John Charles (Judy) Salzano of Cropseyville, NY, Anthony (Kathy) Salzano of Sarasota, FL, Robert (JoAnne) Salzano of Monmouth Junction, NJ, by daughter Alice White of North Port, FL, by sisters Barbara Fay and Lillian Cohen, by brother Richard Mazauskas, by five great-grandchildren, and by many nieces and nephews.
