Robert Carl Lettner
August 7th, 1951 - January 7th, 2012
It is with great sadness that the family of R.C. Lettner, MSG., U.S. Army, Ret. of Venice announces his passing January 7, 2012. He was born in Munich, Germany and grew up in Southern California. At age 14 R.C. joined the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus, Red Unit in the pie car as well as Candy Butcher with his family and was learning the unicycle and juggling. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. During his Army Career he managed to attend Central Texas College to earn his Associates Degree and finished at University of New Orleans with his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Communications. He retired active duty as Finance NCO from Ft. Sam Houston, Texas in 1992 to Venice, to be with family and friends from Ringling Brothers Circus. R.C. loved to bowl and was on several leagues throughout his Military career and retirement. His passion as of late was fishing and took every opportunity to do so. He was also an avid motorcyclist and was past Vice President of ABATE in New Orleans. He enjoyed designing, building and riding his many bikes. Robert was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 101, Nokomis where he dedicated his last three years as Commander. He was also a lifetime member of D A V Auxiliary, as well as American Legion NoVel Post 159, Venice, AmVets Post 0312, North Port, AmVets Riders, VFW Post 8118, Venice and Eagles Aerie 3482, Nokomis. He leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Lea Lettner, Venice, daughter Andrea and son Markus, CO and adopted daughter Vera Waters of Venice, brothers Michael Lettner, NC, James Lettner, MD, Danny Lettner, CA, and many other family and friends. “There are three things that remain – faith, hope and love – and the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians.
