Anita Maxine Gordon

Anita Maxine Gordon, 87, a retired elementary school teacher, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011. Anita was born Oct. 3, 1923, daughter of the late Hughie Tierce and Naomi Horton Duncan, in Birmingham, Ala. She was a graduate of the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, and was very proud of the distinction of graduating Summa Cum Laude. Mrs. Gordon was a lifetime member of the National Education Association (NEA) and State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, AARP and NARFE. She retired to Venice, Fla. where she was employed by the Manatee Community College as an instructor in the Widow-to-Widow program and did freelance writing. She was a member of The Living Way Church in Willow Park. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert and her sister, Barbara. She is survived by her son, Dr. Alan D. Gordon and wife, Sarah; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Venice Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Living Way Church, 3406 Stage Coach Trail, Weatherford, Texas 76087. Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida is handling the arrangements.
