Elizabeth Purdy Martin November 11, 1919 – May 4, 2011 Elizabeth Purdy Martin, “Betsy” born November 11, 1919 passed away at her home with her daughters and “Muffin and Casey” at her side on May 4, 2011. Elizabeth formally of Saddle River, NJ, Southhold, NY and St. Thomas USVI was born of Dr. Maury Ellis and Maude Eleanor Edmondson in Orange, New Jersey. She is predeceased by her husband’s Arthur Russell Purdy Jr., Roy I Martin, and daughter Pamela Purdy Heller. She was the loving Mother of daughters Deborah Purdy Muser of Ramsey NJ, Melinda Purdy Bilcheck of Raleigh, NC, Heide Hancock of Kingmen, Kansas and son Roy I Martin II of Parsippany, NJ, son in laws Richard, Tom, John, Mike, daughter in law Doris, 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and her pets “Muffin” and “Casey”. She is survived by her sister Gloria Ann Tompson of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Betsy will be remembered for her love of family and many friends, her vibrancy and overall enthusiasm for life and was loved by all who knew her. Betsy loved to garden, dance and play bridge with her many friends at Pelican Pointe CC, Jacaranda CC both of Venice, FL and the Ridgewood CC in Ridgewood, NJ, collecting shells on the beach, visiting the jetty listening and watching the waves and she loved to travel. Her business acumen was amazing and her quickness with a funny retort or saying will be remembered by all. She was a member of the Venice Presbyterian Church, and previously the West Side Presbyterian Church, and the First Presbyterian Church both of Ridgewood NJ. Elizabeth was also a member of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary, the Ridgewood Country Club, the Ridgewood Women’s Club all of Ridgewood NJ, a volunteer at the Forum School of Waldwick, NJ and also a volunteer with the North Shore Animal League in Long Island, NY. She will be dearly missed by all.
