John W. Smith
December 4th, 1914 - April 4th, 2011
John W. Smith, 96, of Venice, Florida, formerly of Sandwich and Randolph Massachusetts, died April 4, 2011 at Venice Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Smith was employed by the Boston Naval Shipyard as an Electrical Supervisor for thirty years. He was a member of the State Employees Association of Massachusetts. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a Past Commander and life member of the Amvets Post 51 of Randolph, a member of the Clark-Haddad Post #188 American Legion in Sandwich, and was a member of the Coast Guard Reserve. He was Past President of the Randolph Police Association and served as a Special Police Officer. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus of South Boston, and was an Usher, Sacristan, and Eucharistic Minister with Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich and Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, FL and also served with various civic organizations. He was married for 60 years to the late Anna M. (McDonough) Smith. He leaves his daughter Ann Marie Rogers of Sandwich, MA and Venice FL, and three sons, Francis J. Smith of Venice, FL; James W. Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; Edward J. Smith of Mashpee, MA; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private and burial will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. of Venice, Florida. Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida is handling the arrangements.
