Lois Slate Hammer, age 84, of Venice, FL died on January 16, 2011. She was born in Kokomo, Indiana on October 4, 1926 to Ora George Slate and Gladys Marie Miller Slate. Lois earned a Master’s Degree in Education and also in Counseling/Guidance. She taught Elementary school with a specialty in gifted education in Illinois, California, Arkansas, and Florida. Lois was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Retired Teachers Association, and the American Association of University Women. While retired in Venice, she was involved with the Literacy Guild, the Women’s Resource Center, and Unity Church of Venice. She was excited to share with the world anything and everything she thought would help someone. Surviving family members include her daughter, Donna Day, of Venice; grandchildren Christian Hamer and wife Kate, and Kirsten Remsen and husband Joe; and great-grandchildren Noah and Jonah Hamer.
