Charles (Chad) P. Martin 74 of Venice, FL, formerly of Wenonah, NJ died on June 28, 2010. He was a son of the late Edward and Caroline (Gilroy) Martin. He is survived by his partner of 38 years, Joseph A. Janczuk, brother Russell and Marilyn Martin of North Carolina , nieces, April (and Vaughn) Mignot of Salina, Kansas, Ella (and Louie) Barragan of Quartz Hill, CA, Judi (and Ken) Lemayski of Westville, NJ, nephew Don (and Esther) Martin of Camden, NJ and grand-nephew Andrew Passalenic of San Francisco, CA. Services will be private at a later date. Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory of Venice, Florida will handle arrangements. Born in Woodbury, NJ, he would prove to be a multi-talented person, as a teen, starred in Paul Whitemen’s TV Teen Show, attended Woodbury H.S. and was graduated in 1952. He then entered the Navy and through the G.I. Bill he received a B.A. degree from William Patterson College. He received a M.A. degree from Middlebury College with summers at the Bread Loaf campus in Vermont studying drama. He was President of his Class at Bread Loaf and was said to give a memorable commencement speech. For the next two years he was a Fulbright Scholar and taught English in Sweden to Swedish teachers. From then on he was a Language Arts Educator and Co-ordinator for 36 years teaching Advanced Placement classes as well as Gifted and Talented in NJ and PA . He was active in the National Council of Teachers of English. In 1967 he was a champion on the television show Jeopardy. In 1976 he was an announcer for Philadelphia, PA’s classic radio station WFLN. He acted in many plays at Bread Loaf and with the Woodbury Sketch Club. Briefly, he was a consultant for the publisher Houghton-Mifflin. Chad was a gourmet cook. He traveled the U.S. and Europe extensively. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to your local food pantry.
