Daniel Victor Jones
June 28th, 1929 - May 28th, 2010
Daniel Victor “Boone” Jones, age 80, of Venice, FL, died on May 28, 2010. He was born in Waukegan, Illinois on June 28, 1929. Mr. Jones was a distinguished high school athlete at Antioch Community High School of Antioch, IL. He lettered in track and field, football, and basketball, and was named “Outstanding Athlete” in the conference for the 1946 – 47 school year. He was inducted into the Antioch Community High School Athletic Hall of Fame in November 29, 2003. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, he also learned to fly and soloed a Piper Cub J3 Cap August 9, 1945. Post high school he attended Marquette University on a scholarship and then enlisted in the Air Force where he served our country as an air traffic controller. During his enlistment he also played service ball on Lagens Field Air Force Base team that took forth place in the 1950 Atlantic Division Basketball All World Championships. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he worked as a parts and service manager for the Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury Dealerships in Libertyville and Waukegan, IL. While working for these dealerships he also enjoyed entering, competing, and winning many prestigious golf tournaments and coming home with trophies, prizes, and vacation trips for he and his wife. Mr. Jones retired to Venice, FL in 1990. He enjoyed fresh and salt water fishing, golfing, and swimming. He is survived by his wife Chanpheng “Pen” Jones, of Venice; daughter Debbie Jones of Sarasota, FL; sons Greg Jones of Katy, TX, Gary Jones of Yakima, WA, Dan Jones, Jr. of Tampa, FL, and Steve Jones of Callahan, FL; grandchildren Lindsay, Laura, Ben, Sam, Will, Harold, and Michael; and 4 step grandchildren, Tor, Tar, Oil, and On. He was preceded in death by his parents Leigh Edwin Jones and Edna Viola Jones, his first wife Kathleen “Kitty” Jones, sisters Mildred and Louise, and brother, Edward.
