Robert Brown
June 24th, 1936 - February 15th, 2010
Robert “Bruce” Brown, age 73, of Nokomis passed peacefully home to be with the Lord on February 15, 2010. He was born in St. Louis, MO on June 24, 1936, and came to Nokomis in 1998 from Philadelphia, PA. Bruce graduated from Washington University in 1958 and earned his MBA from the Wharton School of Business in 1960. He was an account executive for the railroad until his retirement in 1993. Trains were his number one hobby. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing bridge, and square dancing. Bruce was able to travel to all 50 states, Canada, and each of the seven continents. Six weeks ago, he was in South Africa riding the Blue Train. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Barbara, of Nokomis; sons Scott R., and Jeffrey J., and daughter Katherine B. Sherry, all of Columbus, OH; sister Susan Horton of Ft. Worth, TX; and 8 grandchildren. He was very proud of his family and his family was very proud of him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11 AM at Christ United Methodist Church in Venice. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church Building Fund1475 Center Road, Venice, FL 34292, or the YMCA Scholarship Fund.
