Arthur F. O'Connell

Arthur F. O’Connell, Jr., age 80, of Venice, FL died on February 3,2010. He was born in West Haven, CT on January 8, 1930 and came to Florida 6 years ago from the Stratford, CT area. He worked for Borden Dairy and Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford before he retired. He was a Korean War veteran of the Navy. He was commended for an heroic rescue effort in hostile waters while serving in the submarine Tusk. Mr. O’Connell was an avid reader, bowler, painter and a family oriented man. He helped with the formation of the Sports Guild at Our Lady of Grace Church in Stratford and coached baseball and basketball in local sports leagues. Surviving family members include his wife Regina, of Venice; daughters Elizabeth Cambras (Bill) of Stratford and Terry Oxboel (Peter) of Venice; sons John O’Connell (Janet) of Ansonia, CT and Mike O’Connell (Mary) of Raleigh, NC; Grandchildren Jonathan and Jennifer Cambras, and Noelle Oxboel; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Brown. A memorial gathering will be held at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 2:00 PM ~ 3:00 PM PM with a service to follow.
