Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Christine Elaine Carter
December 9th, 1920 - January 3rd, 2010
Christine Elaine Carter, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep January 3, 2010. Born Gloria Elaine Carter, she was the daughter of Weldon Carter and Marguerite Copeman Carter, owners and founders of the Washington Musical Institute, one of the first classical music colleges in the Washington DC area of the 1920’s. Miss Carter, under the tutelage of her parents, had an early career as a classical musician. From the age of three, she performed as a soloist on violin and piano. By the age of 12, she was second violin, in the local orchestra, joining her mother, who was first violin. As a young woman in her late teens, she chose to leave her musical career behind, changed her name from Gloria Carter to Christine King and became a model for a short period of time. In later life, after several marriages, she retired to her parents’ property on Nantucket Island Massachusetts, took back her maiden name and became known as the Nantucket Astrologer, having her efforts published in several books. In her last years she moved to Florida for the warm climate and brilliant sunshine. Miss Carter is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey Watson, of North Port Florida. A granddaughter, Andrea Watson, of Shutesbury, Massachusetts, a grandson, John Watson of North Port Florida, and a great grandson, Noah Watson, of Shutesbury, Massachusetts. Miss Carter wished no service, rather that donations to local animal shelters are given in her memory. Her ashes will be taken to Nantucket. Farley Funeral Home in North Port, Florida is handling the arrangements.
