Lavina “Peggy” Smathers Schackert, 87 of Venice, Florida formerly of Zanesville, Ohio passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Pines of Sarasota. Lavina was born June 20, 1921 in Glouster, Ohio. She was a banker with Ohio State Bank in Columbus, Ohio for 18 years until her retirement. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary Post 1058 located in Zanesville, Ohio. She is survived by daughters, Joyce D. (Bill) Murdock of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Peggy Waddell (Bill) of Venice, Florida, sons, Donald (Jean) Smathers of Fort Myers, Florida and Ronald (Mary) Smathers of Royce City, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Lavina was preceded in death by one grandchild.
