Elizabeth Beth Simermeyer
November 26th, 1929 - February 5th, 2009
Elizabeth “Beth” M. Simermeyer, age 79, of Venice, Florida and Camden, Maine died peacefully in the company of her loving husband and daughter on February 5, 2009, at Manor Care of Venice, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Born November 26, 1929 in Weehawken, NJ, she was the daughter of John Tietjen and Emma (Heuer) Tietjen. Beth was a graduate of Holy Angels Academy, Ft. Lee, NJ, and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ in 1951. She worked in NJ as a Home Economics teacher for the North Bergen Board of Education. She grew up in North Bergen and Manasquan, NJ then married John “Jack” L. Simermeyer. They lived in North Bergen, NJ, Camden ME and most recently in Venice, Florida. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish in Camden, ME for 36 years. Beth loved to be on or near the water, spending the summers of her youth on the Jersey Shore at Manasquan and body surfing in the big ocean waves. She was very active in water skiing, windsurfing and sailing, and enjoyed tennis and snow skiing, and being at her summer lake home in Camden, ME. She loved to travel and usually had her bag packed. She also enjoyed going to breakfast with friends and ballroom dancing. But most of all she enjoyed being with her daughter Beth and her 3 grandchildren, and joining them on many adventures. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Mary. Beth is survived by her husband Jack of Venice and Camden, her daughter Elizabeth Ann of Franksville, WI, and grandchildren, Jack, Caroline and Liam, also of Franksville, her dear cousin Don Blesse of Rumson, NJ and a number of nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, February 13, 2009 at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. The family wishes especially to thank the staff of Manor Care in Venice for their outstanding and loving care and support.
