Dorothy C. Smith, age 99, of Venice, Florida, passed away on November 10, 2008. She was born on October 1, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated with a B.S. Degree from the University of Chicago in 1931. She was employed at Arthur Anderson & Company in Chicago, Illinois and then moved to Venice in 1974. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Venice. She is survived by her niece, Dorothy M. Kalchbrenner of Venice, Florida; a nephew, Edward A. Waldo of Oak Forest, Illinois; four great-nieces, Debra Waldron of Nokomis, Florida, Cynthia Schuchart of Orland Park, Illinois, Linda Waldo of Oak Forest, Illinois and Julie Klosowski of New Lenox, Illinois. She also leaves behind three great-great- nephews, Sammy Waldron, Blake Waldron, Sean Klosowski and two great-great-nieces, Jennie and Jessica Schuchart. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, c/o the Organ Fund, 400 East Field Avenue, Venice, Florida 34285 or to TideWell Hospice of Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida 34285.
